Concept Picks Up Award for Excellence in Equality and Diversity

On Wednesday 9th June 2010 Concept Conference Centre picked up the West Midlands Business in the Community Award for Equality and Diversity “for businesses and social enterprises that are pursuing equality and reaping the benefits of diversity”. The award supports the West Midlands Economic Strategy, which is underpinned by equality and diversity principles. The award was sponsored by Advantage West Midlands.

The award not only reflects the hard work of the Concept Team in providing training and employment opportunities to blind or partially sighted people, but also their approach to providing a welcoming environment to all customers! The Equality and Diversity Award obviously recognized Concept’s approach to disability, but also to age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender re-assignment, religion and belief.

The Awards and Gala Dinner took place at the Town Hall, Birmingham and was attended by 340 businesses and entrepreneurs from the local area that are leading the way on Corporate Social Responsibility.

We are putting the final touches to our brand new Concept website which we will be launching later in the year! It will offer all the latest Concept news from the Concept team and information on our social aims. There will also be a new on-line booking system to make life easier for our customers!

We will continue to provide details on how employers can help us reach our social aims, as well as, tips for meeting, working with and interviewing blind and partially sighted people.

Since we launched our original website in August 2009 we have had almost 3000 visits to the site and over 300 followers on twitter. We plan to add much more to the website in the coming months so watch this space!

New venues Coming Soon

Concept’s second centre at Galbraith House will be opening its doors in June! We will be offering flexible meeting space available by the hour. The centre will offer meeting space for up to 20 people and will specialise in tea, coffee and baked goods. We are also planning a third venue in Stafford…more details soon.

Social Return on Investment (SROI)

We are currently working with the RNIB and South Bank University to help us quantify our social objectives. By the end of the year we should be able to tell our customer the added value we provide when we take people off benefits and into employment via training.

Summer (if it gets here)

We are also getting the mood for summer with our new seasonal menu. We’ll be introducing lots of new recipes including our new summer ice creams. However we will still be including our old favourites, such as our chocolate and raspberry brownies and our chocolate coca cola cake!
